Sealed mattress encasements are a must-have: they stop bed bugs, dust mites, bacteria, and everyday fluids from reaching your mattress. Installing a SafeRest encasement is very easy, and only takes a few steps:
Before you begin, remove all bedding from your mattress. This includes all sheets, pillows, and covers, leaving just a bare mattress.
Unbox and unzip the encasement. Remove it gently from its packaging, unroll it, and unzip it on all three sides.
Lean the mattress against the wall. With the help of a friend, lift the mattress off of your bed and lean it upright against your wall. Some mattresses may sag or otherwise not agree with being placed upright, so you should turn those on their side instead.
Install the encasement. Begin by wrapping the short, un-zippered side of the encasement over the top of the standing mattress, so that both faces are partially covered with the encasement. For SafeRest Premium encasements, make sure that the cotton terry side is on top of the mattress (the side that you will be sleeping on). Since SafeRest Classic Plus encasements have identical faces, it doesn’t matter which face you sleep on.
Zip the encasement shut. Lay the mattress back down on your bed, without using the encasement itself to lift (to avoid damaging your new encasement). Close the zipper on all three sides, then use the velcro sealing to block off the end of the zipper.
For proper bed bug protection, you’ll want to repeat these steps on your box spring with a box spring encasement. If you suspect that bed bugs are hiding in your bed, leave the encasements on for at least 18 months to ensure that they’ve all died out. After that, your encasements can be washed quarterly or as needed.
Enjoy your new SafeRest bed bug encasements!
